Match report Not for the first time in the last two seasons, Mersea were undone by not surviving their 45 overs in their home game with Braintree seconds. Batting first only Chris Rayner (38) and Jason Hoggarth (21) passed twenty, as Mersea were bowled out in 32 overs for 123. Geoff Eveling (4 for 26) again amongst the wickets for Braintree.
In reply, Braintree had 58 overs to chase down the target, and in a tense run chase managed to take almost 52 overs and a ninth wicket unbeaten stand of 38 to see them over the line by 2 wickets. All four Mersea bowlers claimed wickets in lengthy spells, with Matt Wilkin on seasonal debut (3 for 38) the pick.
