West Mersea Cricket Club Lost by 116 runs

Match report Ten man Mersea were comfortably put to the sword against local rivals Abberton at The Glebe on Bank Holiday Saturday. The Lions batted first and despite the loss of two early wickets made fairly steady progress, largely through the experienced Simon Swinn (39). Darren Rumble (3 for 65) and Tom Sanderson (2 for 27) bowled tidily in the early stages of the innings. John Arnold (77) top scored for Abberton as the middle order found run scoring easier. Peter Phillips (2 for 28) picked up two late wickets as the visitors closed on 224 for 8. In reply, Mersea quickly fell apart slumping to 41 for 6, as Luke Bloom (4 for 32) made light work of the top order. Luke Bruce batted valiantly for 47, but with only Graham Bowers (10) reaching double figures Mersea were dismissed in the 28th over for 108.
