Match report The TC 2nd XI got their 2022 campaign started with a trip to Maldon 4th. Losing the toss they were inserted and made not the best of starts, with recent sextugenarian Graham Pryke starting his season with a nine ball duck. Louis Elson stayed in for a gritty 64 balls to score 11, and enjoyed a 26 run fourth wicket partnership with Trevor Trout (15). Mersea survived their 40 overs, largely to a late order partnership between Steve Daines (12) and top scorer Chris Warren (21no), and just missed out on the coveted Rossi's ice cream for reaching a team century, by being restricted to 94 for 9.
The Maldon reply seemed as though it was going to be rapid, with the openers putting on 33 in the first five overs and going on to record a fifty partnership. Mersea did fight back with some excellent spells from Seb Gladwell (1 for 15 from 6) and debutant Ollie Wyatt who picked up an excellent 2 for 28 from his eight overs. Seasoned opener Paul Gregory (33no) eased his side to a seven wicket success in 24 overs.
