Match report A game that Mersea were unfortunately only competitive for the first 20 overs as they slumped to defeat at the hands of rivals Abberton. Half century stands for the first and second wickets saw Mersea reach 113 for 1 in 22 overs, with David Taylor compiling 58 and Ian Young adding useful support. However, thereafter Mersea were undone by veteran Mike Booker (6 for 29) and slumped to 120 for 7, with no less than four Mersea batsmen returning to the pavilion with ducks to their names. Young (50no) carried his bat, as Mersea eventually reached 151 all out in the 43rd over. In reply, Abberton eased to a six wicket victory with ten overs to spare, opener Ryan Brooks (38) and skipper Simon Swinn (39no) top scoring. Luke Conway claimed 2 for 33 for Mersea, while there was a debut wicket for John Gladwell (1 for 16)
