West Mersea Cricket Club Won by 82 runs

Match report Mersea got back to Two Counties action with an 82 run victory over struggling Long Melford seconds. Batting first Mersea ground their way to 75 for 2 after 25 overs, (Peter Phillips 17 from 80 balls) and David Taylor (41 from 43) the men out. Thereafter, Luke Conway smashed 56 from 33 balls, and in the process brought up his 500th run of the season, and with Rory Green hitting a career best 72, as well as Callum Drage (26 from 19) , Mersea plundered 176 runs from the last 20 overs to reach 251 for 9. A 75 run opening stand in good time between Hoadley and Howlett saw the visitors nicely placed. However, once the breakthrough was made wickets tumbled, with only a sixth wicket stand of 70 between Willingham and Griffiths halting a complete collapse. Ed Gibson playing his first game of the season claimed a hat trick on his way to figures of 3 for 21, while Darren Rumble (3 for 45 from 15) had bowled tidily at the beginning of the innings. Melford were bowled out in 41st over for 169.
