Match report Mersea seconds suffered defeat at the hands of Harwich & Dovercourt 2nd on the 18th August. Batting first after losing the toss, Mersea made an encouraging start with David Taylor (27) and Mick Laver (31) putting on 52 for the first wicket. However, once the breakthrough was made runs became harder to come by, as Nev Mathur (4 for 24) and Harvey Bennett (3 for 23) combined to return 7 for 47 in 26 overs. Graham Pryke (12) was the only other Mersea batsmen to reach double figures, and although Mersea survived the forty overs they could only must 102 for 9. In reply, Amit Tiwari (2 for 28) and Chris Warren (1 for 21) reduced the hosts to 12 for 2, before Paul Grubb (31) and a watchful Bennett steadied the innings. Mick Laver (1 for 16) registered Mersea's only other success as Harwich eased to a six wicket success in thirty overs, with Bennett undefeated on 36.
