Match report The second eleven's hope of avoiding the wooden spoon were thwarted in a nine wicket defeat by nearest rivals Kelvedon 3rd. Batting first, there were no less than six ducks in the Mersea innings, with only Ian Young (53) and Roger Goodwin (17) putting together any sort of partnership with a third wicket stand of 49. A welcome return to the club for James Handford saw him the only other batsman to reach double figures, although he was left stranded on 12 not out, as Mersea were bowled out in the 34th over for 92. Kelvedon made light work of the run chase, despite an encouraging opening spell from James Handford (1 for 27 from 7) and Roger Goodwin (0 for 18 from 7). Handford took the solitary wicket to fall, to an excellent catch by Steve Daines, but thereafter, Kelvedon cruised to victory in just over 20 overs.
