Match report The NECL side bounced back from their heavy defeat last week to record a seven run win at home to Eight Ash Green. The Green won the toss and elected to field, and saw Mersea amass 173 for 3 from their 40 overs. James Rutter dominated the innings by recording his second century for the club and a career best 116 from 109 balls. Daniel Gladwell (22) was the next top scorer enjoying a second wicket stand of 60 with Rutter.
A solid start for the Green saw the openers put of 63 in fifteen overs before the breakthrough was made, with Ben Rumble breaking the partnership. Wickets then fell regularly as Eight Ash Green slipped to 92 for 6. with Joe Wyatt (1 for 23) backing up skipper Rumble who picked up 5 for 23. A fifty partnership for the eighth wicket threatened the balance of the game, with Felix Friedlein hitting a rapid 30, that included seven fours, whilst Tim Chambers (34no) kept an end up. Ollie Wyatt (2 for 40) then. claimed the all important wicket of Friedlein and with Daniel Gladwell (1 for 28) returning to bowl his last three overs the visitors were reduced to 159 for 9. Needing 12 from the last over to win, Ollie Wyatt managed to contain the last pair to just four singles and Mersea had won by 7 runs.
