Match report For the third time in two seasons Mersea’s TC first eleven suffered the agony of a one wicket defeat at Long Melford. Batting first the Mersea innings was built on a fine 79 from Adam Rutter, with contributions throughout the order with the best being from James Rutter (24) and Tom Sanderson (23no) to reach 195 for 9.
In reply Melford seemed to be easing to a comfortable victory reaching 181 for 6 with ten overs remaining. However, with Adam Rutter removing the dangerous Johns (67), it allowed Darren Rumble to cause late order mayhem on his way to figures of 4 for 62. The last pairing were able to put together an unbeaten stand of 10, to see Melford home to the narrowest of wins.
