Match report An excellent run chase provided the TC 1st XI with five wicket success at Easton. The home side batted first, and posted a respectable 211 for 4 from their 45 overs. Luke Conway was the pick of the Mersea bowlers returning 2 for 36, and there was a wicket a piece for Darren Rumble and Tom Sanderson. Easton’s skipper W Mitchell top scored with an unbeaten 85, enjoying a third wicket stand of 92 with T Palmer (44).
In reply, Nick Gray and Digs Taylor put on fifty opening stand, before a match winning second wicket stand between Taylor (66) and birthday boy Luke Conway (89) put the islanders well ahead, requiring 30 from the last ten overs. A flurry of wickets to L Keeble (3 for 24) saw the final outcome much closer than it looked as though it was going to be, with Mersea getting over the line with eleven balls to spare.
