West Mersea Cricket Club Lost by 124 runs

Match report West Mersea’s miserable run in the NECL continued following a 124 run defeat by Copdock & OI. The tone of the match was set when Copdock won the toss and elected to bat first, with openers Sam Webb-Snowling and Jack Mexome (37) showing their undoubted class in an opening stand of 99 in 16 overs. Webb-Snowling (103) went on to record a chanceless century, and on reaching the landmark, retired out. Karl Storey (69no) and Peter Boughton (28no) combined in a fourth wicket stand to see Copdock reach 254 for 3.
In reply, Mersea never threatened the Copdock total being bowled out for 130. Luke Conway (45) showed some fight with a belligerent knock, while Ian Young (31no) and Neil Goodridge (30) also put in sizeable contributions. Five of the six Copdock bowlers claimed wickets, with Jamie Smith (3 for 6) and Steve Gauke (3 for 20) the most successful, however, there was encouragement with good bowling spells from youngsters Lewis Millions, Ollie Mexome and George Offord.
