Match report Abberton were comfortable derby day winners at home to West Mersea to remain fourth. Matt Sullivan (34) and Dave Schofield (33) got the Lions off to a brutal start, with at least one boundary assured in each of the first ten overs. Rory Green (2 for 32) broke the partnership with a sharp caught and bowled. However, from this platform Phil Lingard (58) and Aaron Trussler built a fourth wicket stand of 107, which was eventually ended with a comical run out. Trussler (70no) and Chris Pettit (24no) added some quick late runs as Abberton posted 251 for 5. The islanders never threatened the Abberton total with controlled bowling performances from all the Lions bowlers. Dave Booker (1 for 26 from 9) the most economic. Neil Goodridge (68no) top scored, while Luke Conway briefly threatened to ignite the blue touch paper with three sixes in his 20. In the end Mersea were restricted to 176 for 6, to gain four batting points which despite defeat was enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.
