West Mersea Cricket Club Won by 99 runs

Match report West Mersea signed off a disappointing campaign, which has seen them have to concede three games and consigned to bottom place, with a 99 run victory over West Bergholt. Opener Raza Iqbal (31) got the islanders off to a rapid start, with Mersea getting to 37 in the first five overs. Nick Gray (21) and Graham Bowers put on a second wicket stand of 45, as Mersea continued to score at five an over. A fourth wicket stand of 62, between Bowers (67) and Luke Conway (40 from 34 balls) looked to be setting Mersea up for a score well in excess of 200, but with Joe Smith (3 for 41) and Adam Taylor (3 for 34) taking wickets the home side were restricted to 207 for 9. In reply, only Tom Wilkinson (27) and David Bates (22) seemed comfortable at the wicket, coping with some prodigious leg spin from Haseeb Talib (2 for 27). The introduction of Raza Iqbal (4 for 9) then saw a rapid end to proceedings, as the last six wickets fell for 27 runs to see Bergholt bowled out for 108
