Match report Batting first Mersea crawled to 45 for 3 in the first twenty overs, with Paul Catling (0 for 18 from 9) bowling an effective opening spell. However, the innings changed with the arrival of Luke Conway who after been given a life first ball when dropped in the deep, went on to hit a brutal 67 from 35 balls. Ian Young provided support as the pair put on 94 runs in 12 overs. The islanders had the impetus in the latter overs as Young (30), Matt White (18 from 15) and George Shepherd (18 from 15) lifted the score to 191 for 8 from 40 overs. George Wilson was the most successful of the Kirby bowlers returning 3 for 28. In reply, Kirby reached 57 for 3 from the opening 18 overs, with Luke Conway (1 for 26) and Kevin Hewes (2 for 29) sharing the wickets. Tom Lawes and Adam Warnes (23) then put on a fourth wicket stand of 63 as the home side seemed to be getting into the ascendancy. However, with Trevor Vince (3 for 31) breaking the partnership by claiming the wicket of Warnes, and shortly afterwards Tom Lawes (64) holing out in the deep off the bowling of Neil Goodridge (3 for 33) the gates were open and the wickets tumbled as Kirby lost their last six wickets for 28 runs.
