Match report Mersea first eleven made it two wins on the bounce with a successful trip into Suffolk against Woolpit 3rds. Batting first the innings was built on a solid platform from opener Peter Phillips (49) who was unlucky not to convert to a half century. He enjoyed stands of 41 with David Taylor, and 80 with Ali Manhire. A third wicket stand of 99 between Manhire and Luke Conway saw Mersea through the 200 barrier, with Manhire completing a maiden half century and a career best 75. Conway meanwhile was on the offensive with seven sixes in his 75 from just 31 balls as Mersea closed at 253 for 4. In reply, Woolpit did not pose a great threat to the Mersea total although the Mersea bowlers struggled to take wickets. Woolpit skipper Trevor Haynes scored an unbeaten 121, while Nick Haynes added 61 in a second wicket stand of 143. Peter Phillips, making his 175th appearance for the club (2 for 46) was the most successful bowler as Woolpit were restricted to 226 for 3.
