Match report A sorry performance from the first team in glorious conditions against Melton St Audry. Batting first after winning the toss, Mersea made a good start with David Taylor hitting a rapid 15 before playing across the line to ball that kept low. Peter Phillips and Graham Bowers, then combined with a partnership of 65 to put Mersea seemingly on course for a big total. However, when Bowers (33) was dismissed the game dramatically changed, as Mersea batsmen found the fielders in attempting to hit Jothi Barnsley-Sadasavan (6 for 29) out of the attack. Phillips (31) was the next to go, and there then followed a procession as Mersea lost nine wickets for 33 runs !, only Rory Green (15) getting to double figures out of the remainder, as Mersea were bowled out for 115. In reply, the visitors eased to victory in the 29th over, with opener Adrian Smith scoring an unbeaten 63. Kevin Hewes (1 for 20 from 9) bowled a tidy spell for the islanders, whilst Allan Highfield (2 for 23) claimed his first wickets of the season.
