Match report The first eleven went into their penultimate match at Woolpit requiring 24 points to avoid a second successive relegation. Ultimately, the team were defeated by 2 wickets with one ball to spare, but nevertheless a haul of nine points means they just require to win their final game against fellow relegation contenders Melton St Audry. Batting first David Taylor (37) reached 500 runs for the season, and there was a hint of an innings past from Luke Conway as he blasted an excellent 88 from 56 balls which included five sixes, to see Mersea handily placed at 161 for 4. A run out of Conway halted the impetus of the innings, but a good seventh wicket stand of 35 between John Gladwell and Graham Pryke (18) saw the Mersea score pass 200. However, the dismissal of Pryke saw a rapid end to the innings as Mersea were bowled out for 216, with Gladwell unbeaten on a career best 20. Half centuries from K Flanagan (67 retired out) and W West (87no) were to prove decisive, but the Mersea bowling attack kept the reply in the balance. Tom Sanderson (3 for 70) was the most successful of the bowlers.
