Match report The second eleven put in their most encouraging performance of the season to date on the second pitch against Witham 3rd. Batting first after winning the toss again, Mersea lost openers Mick Laver and Darren Hewett cheaply. The former in bizarre circumstances as his shot landed on the slips foot and then was snaffled by an adjacent fielder. Ian Young (66) then combined with George Shepherd (18) and Callum Drage (14) to put on the bulk of the Mersea total. Graham Pryke was the next top scorer with 9 not out, as Mersea were bowled out in the 35th over for 134. Amit TIwari claimed early wickets on his way to figures of 3 for 42, and at one point was on a hat-trick. Elliott Drage (2 for 18) was also amongst the wickets as the visitors stumbled to 61 for 5, and raised Mersea hopes. However, a half century partnership between Andy Wilson (31no) and Luke Brown (23) ensured that there would be no Mersea celebration, as Witham eased to a four wicket success.
