Match report The first team entertained unbeaten Nowton on Monday 4th May in warm conditions. After winning the toss, Adam Rutter elected to bat, and leading from the top of the order dominated the game with an excellent 88 out of 139. He also reached a personal landmark of 8000 runs for the club in his innings. However, there was little support with only Matt White (25) topping 20 as Mersea eventually posted 189 for 9, which looked to be around twenty short. However, Darren Rumble (3 for 29 from 15) and Luke Bruce (3 for 35 from 15) bowled superbly to make any chance of a successful run chase very improbable. Kevin Hewes (2 for 16) and Matt Wilkin (0 for 25) backed up the opening bowlers as Nowton limped to 111 for 8, to give Mersea victory by 78 runs.
