Match report On Bank Holiday Monday, the first eleven travelled to Ipswich to play bottom side Ipswich 3rds, who were strengthened considerably by a number of first and second team players. Luke Bruce made the early breakthrough on his way to 1 for 9 from 6, which then enabled the guesting Alex Young to make significant inroads into the Ipswich top order as Ipswich slumped to 27 for 4. The game then drifted as Ipswich seemed content on blocking out the Mersea bowlers. Matt Wilkin bowled his best spell of the season to take 3 for 23 from 14 overs, while Alex Young returned at the death to claim a further three wickets to complete figures of 6 for 43 from 13, as Ipswich were bowled out for 111. A generally good fielding display from Mersea was epitomised by Luke Bruce taking a superb outfield catch to dismiss the Ipswich skipper, although contrary to that was a ‘reach for the skies’ moment from Alex Young has he fumbled and eventually shelled a dolly slip catch. Mersea ground out the chase against some useful Ipswich bowling, Adam Rutter (25), Alex Young (34) and David Taylor (20, including two big sixes) leading Mersea to a four wicket success.
