Match report Mersea first eleven bounced back from defeat at home to Kelvedon, with an excellent run chase at second placed Nowton. On a perfect wicket, and in warm conditions the bowlers toiled all afternoon. Nowton batted first and posted 250 for 5 from their 45 overs, with 104 runs coming in the last ten overs. Darren Rumble (2 for 62 from 15) and Matt Wilkin (1 for 51 from 15) both kept the Nowton batsmen in check. In reply, Mersea made the perfect start with Adam Rutter and David Taylor (48) putting on 100 for the first wicket in less than 20 overs. Rutter was the mainstay of the innings, eventually posting his second century of the season and with Luke Conway (51 from 38 balls) showing some form, Mersea got to the target with 11 balls to spare.
