Match report The Sunday NECL side are going well and have now gone to the top of Division Four, following a nine run victory over Kirby at The Glebe on 19th July. Kirby won the toss and put Mersea in to bat, which seemed to yield immediate success as we slumped to 4 for 2. Luke Conway (58 from 33 balls) and Graham Bowers (36) went on a counter attack that saw Mersea bring up the 100 in 18 overs. Kevin Hewes (23) and Jason Hoggarth (42) then put on a fifth wicket stand of 64 to lift Mersea to defendable total of 193 for 9. Hewes (2 for 21 from 9) and Luke Conway (1 for 17 from 9) then put Kirby under pressure in their reply, and with a 100 required from the last ten overs it seemed that victory was fairly academic for Mersea. However, Adam Warnes (39) and Max Oram (50) made a sterling effort to get to the target, and would probably have been closer but for an unfortunate injury to Warnes with two overs remaining. James Bibby bowled with control over the latter overs as Mersea came out victorious.
