Match report There was a thriller at The Glebe on May 11th, where West Mersea seconds hosted Gosfield. In a game reduced to 40 overs per side, Mersea openers Graham Bowers (40) and Neil Goodridge (28) put on an opening stand of 76 in twenty overs, to give the islanders a solid start. Dan Lambert (26) and Luke Conway (50) then added some momentum to the innings as Mersea eventually posted 171 for 6. Mark Bloomfield with 3 for 45 was the most successful Gosfield bowler, and Joe Doherty made four dismissals at the wicket (2 stumpings and 2 catches). Gosfield openers Bloomfield (27) and Gary Dicker (35) put on 71 for the first wicket in 20 overs, and with Jeeva Subrahmani adding 40 they reached 130 for 3 with eight overs to go. Trevor Vince (4 for 38) and a miserly spell from Nod Goodridge (2 for 15 from 8) put Mersea back in charge, leaving the visitors requiring 14 off the last over to win. A no ball, boundary four, and a couple of chaotic three’s, including one from the last ball of the game, saw Gosfield claim an improbable tie.
