Match report The second eleven entertained Great Totham on the same day, and came a distant second. Mersea’s average age for the game was 52, whilst Totham’s oldest player was 31. Unfortunately, for Mersea’s Dads Army they lost the toss and were confined to the field for the first innings. After an early wicket, James Pook (33) and Liam Jones (a rapid 60) took the score on to 83 in 16 overs. Neil Goodridge and Trevor Vince then pegged the innings back with two wickets a piece to leave Totham 130 for 5. Sam Powell was then joined by Rob Mutton (49) and the pair steered Totham to a more comfortable position with a partnership of 66 for the sixth wicket, and as Mersea tired in the field runs became easier as Totham eventually posted 257 for 9, with Powell unbeaten on 67. Kevin Hewes was the pick of the Mersea bowlers his ten overs returning 2 for 38. In reply, Mersea had little answer to the questions posed by the Totham side with only Hewes (43) putting in any score of substance. Powell capped a fine match by taking 5 for 18 from his ten overs as Mersea were bowled out for 111.
