Match report The first home game of the season saw the Two Counties second eleven entertain Maldon 4ths. Mersea batted first and made a solid enough start through Peter Phillips (33) and Rory Green (27), with 56 put on for the first wicket. Jason Hoggarth chipped in with a rapid 33, and with skipper Graham Pryke adding 17 towards the end of the innings Mersea reached 147 for 7 from their 35 overs.
Peter Phillips then made early inroads into the Maldon innings, with two wickets in his first four overs, on his way to figures of 2 for 39 from 11. Amit Tiwari ensured Mersea kept their opponents on a tight rein his 12 overs going for 28 runs. However, with Maldon number three Ian Lane posting an unbeaten 74 the visitors got home with two overs to spare to score a six wicket victory.
