Match report The bleak start to the 2021 league season continued with a four wicket home defeat for the 1sts at home to Felixstowe & Corinthians 2nds. On a horrid day weather wise, it was the only game to survive the rain in the area. Mersea lost the toss and were unsurprisingly asked to bat. From a respectable start, of reaching 41 for 2, with skipper Luke Conway (27) and Rory Green (13) reaching double figures, the innings crumbled rapidly as Flecknoe (4 for 10) and Parker (2 for 2) made light work of the rest of the batting as Mersea stumbled to 60 all out.
In reply, Darren Rumble (4 for 13) and Luke Conway (2 for 30) picked up three bowling points for the islanders, and at one point the match was interestingly poised with the visitors 27 for 6. However, an unbroken seventh wicket stand of 34, was enough to see the Suffolk side home.
