Match report The seconds entertained Maldon 4th, and probably an example that the team would wish to follow. Having spent a number of years in the basement battle with Mersea, Maldon are now reaping success on the field with their 4th team building a team of experience and juniors, that is now challenging at the top end of the division. After winning the toss, Maldon made a solid start through their openers with 40 put on for the first wicket, despite tidy bowling spells from Amit Tiwari and Tony Cloke. Tony Oram made the breakthrough on his way to figures of 2 for 30, before Maldon skipper Joe Figg (115no) compiled an excellent unbeaten century as Maldon built a solid innings. John Clarke picked up two late wickets (2 for 26) as Maldon closed on 224 for 7.
Mersea found batting difficult again, with only Ian Young (27) and Tony Cloke (18) reaching double figures as they were bowled out for 80, Maldon's Al Johnson picking up 5 for 10.
