Match report The first eleven bounced back from defeat at Maldon, with an emphatic victory at Haverhill this week. Batting first, Luke Conway (25 from 16 balls) got Mersea off to a rapid start. His opening partner Rory Green was the first to depart for 9, but having scored the five he required to reach 1500 club runs. James Rutter joined Conway at the crease and posted a fluent 38, to bring his 100 up for the campaign. However, the real impetus to the innings came from a TC 1st XI record fifth wicket stand between Stuart Elson and Ed Vandermark of 115. Both Elson (90) and Vandermark (20) posted career bests as Mersea past 200. With them falling on the same score, 203, it was left to some fine late order hitting from Matt Wilkin (47 from just 17 balls, which included 10 fours) to see Mersea glean 65 off the last five overs to reach 268 for 7.
In reply, Matt Wilkin (3 for 14) and Darren Rumble (2 for 30) reduced the hosts to 44 for 5, to effectively end the game as a contest. Chris Storrar by all accounts took a worldie of a catch to remove opener James Eshelby (17). Wilkin and Rumble were replaced by Luke Conway (3 for 20) and Joe Wyatt (1 for 11), who claimed his 25th career wicket, as Haverhill were dismissed in the 33rd over for 86, leaving Mersea the victors by 182 runs.
