Match report The first home game of the season ended in a heavy defeat for the 1sts at the hands of Chappel & Wakes Colne 2nd. With Darren Rumble making his 400th club appearance, and first team debuts for Jim Hall and Ollie Wyatt, a promising start was made with skipper Luke Conway winning the toss and electing to bat. However, apart from James Rutter (11) and Gareth Mason (10) getting to double figures there was little else to add to the score as Mersea were shot out for 53. Chappel captain Ben Jackson picked up excellent figures of 4 for 6 from his 9 overs, as Mersea went through a horror collapse of losing seven wickets for seven runs, including four with the score on 37. Joe Wyatt was next top scorer with a defiant 9 from 28 balls, while Ben Rumble gave him support with 3 from 32 balls, the pair putting on the second biggest partnership of the innings with 14 for the 9th wicket.
In reply, Chappel openers Bella Johnson and Emily Eves made light work of the reply reaching 42 before Joe Wyatt claimed the solitary wicket to fall that of Johnson for a well made 34. Harry Carter joined Eves and the pair saw the visitors home to a comfortable victory in the 19th over.
