Match report An excellent performance at home to Woolpit 3rd, saw the firsts win their fifth game of the season and break a number of individual records, to keep their early season promotion push very much on course. Winning the toss and electing to field, Darren Rumble (2 for 41 from 12) including his 550th club wicket and Joe Wyatt (2 for 24) made early inroads into the Woolpit top order. Luke Conway (2 for 24) picked up a couple of wickets to reduce the visitors to 75 for 6, before some late order resistance by Gavin Taylor (34) and Hector Loft (34) got Woolpit to the right side of one hundred. Ben Rumble (4 for 23) picked up their wickets, as Woolpit were dismissed for 143, Rumble in doing so reaching 25 wickets for the season and in doing so the quickest to feat in seventy years. Mersea raced to a 10 wicket victory in just over 21 overs, with an unbroken opening stand of 144 between James Rutter (78no) and Gareth Mason (46no), Rutter passing 500 runs for the season and beating Luke Conway’s June 4th mark in 2013 for the same feat.
