West Mersea Cricket Club Lost by 1 run

Match report The opening Evening League fixture of the season, ended in yet another thriller, with Mersea losing by just one run. Batting first Eight Ash Green were in trouble at 18 for 3 after five overs, Rosie Daines and Joe Wyatt (1 for 8 from 3) both bowling good opening spells. Recovery came from Daryl Sleeman (22), but with nine bowlers of Mersea taking regular wickets, and three run outs the visitors were resticted to 85 for 9.
In reply, Mersea made a poor start losing openers Jim Hall and Ruben Butler cheaply. Seb Gladwell coming in at four shored up the innings and with Luke Conway and Angus Lockhart seemed to Mersea in a good position, however, with Gladwell's dismissal for 26, Mersea slumped from 79 for 6 to 84 all out with five balls still in hand. Joe Young (3 for 5 from 11 balls) causing the end of innings slump, after Luke Coppin (3 for 10) had bowled tidily at the start of the innings. Ollie Wyatt made his 75th appearance for the club, while Ben Rumble scored his 500th career run, and also took his 50th career catch.
