Match report The miserable weather in May continued into the third weekend. A double header at home, was scrubbed out as the main wicket became too wet for play. The second pitch was still available, so the second XI game was sacrificed, and the first team game with Melton St Audry moved onto the second square. Not surprisingly the toss was important with the visitors winning it and inserting Mersea on a squelch ! After the early wicket of Darren Rumble for 0, Luke Conway made batting look very easy, smashing 40 off 21 balls, and in the process reaching 13000 runs for the club. However, Daniel Gladwell (13) was the only other player to reach double figures as Mersea slumped to 87 all out. Nathanael Mawson taking 5 for 14 at the end of the innings. In reply, the visitors made a strong enough start reaching 34 without loss, before Gladwell took a return catch on his way to figures of 1 for 18. Ben Rumble then claimed 3 for 17, with James Rutter effecting two stumpings, as Audrys slipped to 59 for 4, before Phil King (30no) and Jothi Barnsley-Sadasavan (27no) steered the visitors to a six wicket success.
