Match report Mersea bounced back from a heavy defeat by Chappel last week to record a 58 run victory over Woolpit 3rd. Winning the toss, Mersea made their best start to a league match this season, with Angus Lockhart (38) and David Taylor putting on 64 for the opening wicket. Taylor continued to dominate after the loss of Lockhart, with nine fours and two sixes in his 63, but when he was fifth man out Mersea were 147 and in danger, if previous performances were taken into account to fold dramatically. However, Matt Wilkin (23), a mature innings of 24 from Jack Luckman, and 18 from Peter Phillips guided Mersea up to 208 for 9.
In reply, despite struggling for direction (21 wides), Matt Wilkin (4 for 42) picked up early wickets, and a spell of three wickets in four balls saw him reach 250 wickets for the club as Woolpit faltered to 38 for 4. A position from which the hosts never recovered despite 45 from Rob Jack. Mersea skipper Luke Conway took centre stage with the ball returning 6 for 46, as Woolpit were dismissed in the 33rd over for 150.
