Match report After getting out of jail against Saxmundham a week earlier, the first team were at it again at Long Melford. Asked to bat, Mersea were soon in trouble at 44 for 6, with all the top order back in the pavilion. Digs Taylor, had mustered 5, which saw him pass 9000 runs for the club. Ali Manhire, looking for 2 runs to pass 500 himself, was then joined by Matt Wilkin. The pair put on a seventh wicket stand of 91, before Manhire was bowled for 25. Wilkin continued to take the game to the Melford bowlers, recording a 29 ball fifty, and then converting to his second club century, and ending with a career best 105no. Darren Rumble, 5, gave him useful support for the 9th wicket, the pair putting on 42, as Mersea got to the dizzy heights of 194 for 9.
Joe Wyatt and Matt Wilkin bowled tidily as the reply began, each claiming early wickets. The breakthrough was the wicket of Steve Hale for 51, for Wilkin (3-43), as wickets began to tumble, as Melford went from 96 for 3, to 157 all out. Luke Conway (3 for 48) took his 750th wicket for the club, while Wyatt (2 for 37) and Connor Green (2 for 16) played good supporting roles with the ball.
