Match report Bury inflicted a heavy defeat on the first team in the season opener, so at The Glebe, Mersea were looking for a better performance. Batting first Mersea could only make 94, of which James Rutter (52) posted his fifth half century of the season. Luke Conway (18) was the only other player to reach double figures, and in the process became the first Mersea batsman to reach 500 runs for the season, closely followed by Rutter who did so on reaching 50.
Probably the only two highlights of the afternoon, as the Bury St Edmunds openers Longfield (45no) and Plumb (41no) eased them to victory in 27 overs. Darren Rumble the pick of the Mersea bowlers with only 16 runs off his 9 overs.
