Match report After rain saw the Copdock opener cancelled a week earlier, a further rain in the week it was a testament to the Tendring groundsman that the game on the 22nd April was on.
Mersea won the toss and elected to field, and with new opening bowling partnership of Ellis Humphreys (1 for 34 from 11) and Joe Wyatt (1 for 12 from 6) putting in early tidy bowling spells the hosts found it difficult to score. Luke Conway (2 for 16 from 12) further put the shackles on, and only a late onslaught from Casey Chambers (22 from 23 balls) saw Tendring close at 113 for 6.
In reply, Mersea lost Digs Taylor cheaply and an injured James Rutter (25) was the second wicket to fall on 44. Rutter going to A&E the following day, and discovering that he had broken his thumb in the warm up – so commendable to keep wicket for 45 overs and then open the batting ! Ali Manhire (21no) and Luke Conway (53no from 26 balls including six sixes) then made victory a formality reaching the target in the 26th over.
