Match report The first eleven travelled to last season's Division Seven champions and early pacesetters in Division Six this term, Brightlingsea. Winning the toss Mersea were invited to bat, and were pretty quickly on the back foot as Adam Rutter was dismissed first ball he faced. Seb Gladwell continuing his excellent start to the campaign enjoyed partnerships of 46 and 40 with Digs Taylor and Alex Young to take the score to 90 for 3. However, from that point Brightlingsea turned the screw, Gladwell achieving his fourth fifty (51) of the season, but his wicket signalling a collapse as Mersea slumped from 106 for 4 to 116 all out.
In reply, Alex Young (0 for 16 from 9) kept things tight at the start of the innings, but with too few runs on the board the Brightlingsea batters were able to see off the danger, and take runs from any loose deliveries. Spin twins Luke COnway (3 for 26) and Ollie Wyatt (1 for 42) did take four wickets between them to see Mersea pick up two bowling points, with Brightlingsea winning in the 31st over by 6 wickets.
