Match report After defeat by the top of the table Brightlingsea last week it was back to The Glebe, for a first ever encounter with Earls Stonham. Luke Conway won the toss and with a number of regulars missing elected to field. The visitors made slow progress, largely due to an economic spell from Joe Wyatt (0 for 16 from 8) and an opening burst from a returning Gareth Mason. After 20 overs the visitors had reached 56 for 2, wickets for Luke Conway (2 for 23), Ollie Wyatt (2 for 33) and debutant Juwan Malindu (3 for 22) stemmed the run scoring further, with Earl Stonham eventually surviving the 45 overs with 149 for 9 on the board. In reply, Mersea lost an early wicket in Rory Green, but then seemed to be in the ascendancy as Seb Gladwell (23) and Gareth Mason (26) put on 52 for the second wicket. However, with both falling within a run of each other, the gate was opened for the Stonham bowlers with Stephen Lewis (4 for 17) taking command and Mersea slipping to 106 for 7, of which Luke Conway scored 33. The visitors were now firm favourites, but Jim Hall (24no), Ollie Wyatt (7) and Joe Wyatt (3no) had other ideas as the last two partnerships scored 34 runs to see Mersea to a one wicket victory with five overs remaining, the last pairing of Hall and Joe Wyatt putting on 13 runs.
