Match report A May day friendly at a cold and overcast Dedham ended in a comprehensive defeat, although by all accounts the winter training and indoor cricket is beginning to produce fruit. Dedham won the toss and batted first, with the openers putting on 62 for the first wicket before Dan Miller (1 for 23) claimed Mersea's first success. Fifties for Freddie Philpott (64) and Paul Ager (67), and an unbeaten century from Josh Phillips (100no) saw Dedham up to 268 for 4. Ruben Butler (2 for 44) and James Rutter (1 for 20) were the other wicket takers for Mersea. Mersea skipper India Reilly, gave all the outfield bowlers a turn with the ball.
In reply, Mersea reached 38 for 2 from 15 overs, with James Rutter (10), Matt Williamson (9) and Seb Gladwell (9) top scoring. However, with Mersea tourists Kye Hayden picking up 3 for 4, there was a dramatic collapse as Mersea lost the last 8 wickets for 8 runs, to lose by a margin of 222 runs.
