Match report Mersea's only tour match of the season, saw the friendly side take the sunshine bus to deepest Surrey, for a game with Mertsham Development side. The hosts batted first and scored 176 for 4 from their 30 overs, with Oliver White (53) top scoring. The Mersea wicket takers were Freya Reilly (again) taking 1 for 10 from 3 overs and Steve Daines picking up 1 for 34 in the later stages. India Reilly and Ben Rumble also made two run outs to account for the four wickets. All eleven Mersea players got the opportunity to turn their arms over, with Charlotte Granger (0 for 8 from 3) and John Clarke (0 for 10 from 3) the most economic.
The Mersea reply saw a steady start from the Granger girls, Dominique (21) and Charlotte (9), India Reilly (10) also reached double figures. However, there was a disaster for John Clarke who picked up a dreaded platinum duck, run out without facing. Seb Gladwell arrived at the crease and batted well for a career best 39 from 52 balls which included four fours. At one stage there was a real possibility that at 14 years 233 days he would become the youngest player to score a Mersea senior fifty. Mersea eventually closed at 102 for 6, and defeat by 74 runs.
