Match report A tough afternoon for the Sunday side against league favourites Great Waltham on 26th June. The added bonus of being able to watch the game from the comfort of the living room, as the game was streamed lived on Great Waltham Youtube. The home side won the toss and made steady progress, before two wickets in two balls by an impressive Joe Wyatt reduced them to 47 for 3. However, that was the catalyst for mayhem with opener Jamie Carroll and Kieran Webb (66) putting on 188 in little over 20 overs. India Reilly claimed the wicket of Webb, and with Carroll retiring for 151, the last few overs were dominated by Harrison Elles (75no from 37 balls) as Waltham closed on 359 for 5. Joe Wyatt returned at the end of the innings to deliver credible figures of 3 for 41 from his 9 overs.
The Mersea reply got off to the worse possible start with run machine James Rutter dismissed for a duck fifth ball. Mersea never really challenged the total but there were some eye catching performances with the bat. Wyatt backed up his bowling display with a fluent 27, while Ruben Butler hit a career best 31, which included his first six. He also enjoyed a last wicket stand of 27 with Steve Daines (9no) as Mersea were bowled out for 90, Matthew Reed taking 5 for 11 from his 9 overs for the hosts.
The game also marked a 50th appearance for both Rosie Daines and Louis Elson.
